Visit the improved Park and Garden behind
the main building and enjoy the new walking trail around the lake. The
Park and Garden was originally designed in 1906 as Lincoln's first
public park. The renovated area was dedicated on May 15, 2011. Wyuka
Historical Foundation raised $220,000 from the community to complete the
project. The historic bridge, shown above, was resurfaced, and an
additional bridge and park furniture were added. The project was
designed to make the lake area more attractive and usable for the many
visitors who come to Wyuka each year.
Wyuka Cemetery and
Wyuka Historical Foundation
Wyuka Cemetery was created in 1869 by the legislature of the new state
of Nebraska to provide a burial place in the capital city. The cemetery
was designed as a "rural cemetery", a large, landscaped, park-like style
that became popular in the 19th century. The entire property was
placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 as an
outstanding example of the beautiful rural cemetery style. Wyuka
Historical Foundation was founded in 1997 with the sole purpose of
supporting the preservation and public use of Wyuka Cemetery.
